HORIZN.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 May 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Horizn (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use the Horizn mobile application (the “App”). Horizn is operated from the United Kingdom and complies with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Who we are

Horizn is a real-world driving app inspired by racing games. It allows users to track their drives, earn XP, complete location-based challenges, and connect with other drivers.

For any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at:

2. What information we collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

  • Account details: email address, username, password (stored encrypted), display name, profile photo
  • Profile information: any optional details you add, such as your car, location region, or bio
  • Content you create: drives you record, challenges you complete, comments, friend connections, in-app messages

2.2 Location data

Horizn collects precise location data (GPS coordinates, speed, heading, altitude) when you use the App. This includes:

  • Foreground location: while you have the App open and are actively using it
  • Background location: when you have started a drive and the App is minimised or your phone is locked, so your drive continues to record. Background location collection stops automatically when you end a drive.

You can revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings. The App will not function fully without location access.

2.3 Automatically collected information

  • Device information: device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone
  • Usage data: features used, screens viewed, session duration, in-app actions (anonymised where possible)
  • Diagnostic data: crash reports and performance data via Sentry, to help us identify and fix bugs

2.4 Information from third parties

If you sign in using a third-party service (such as Apple or Google), we receive your email address and a unique identifier from that service. We do not access your contacts, photos, or other personal data from those services.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide core App functionality (account management, drive tracking, challenges, XP, leaderboards)
  • Display you on the map to friends if you have enabled location sharing
  • Show your drives, achievements, and profile to other users according to your privacy settings
  • Send service-related communications (account verification, password resets, important updates)
  • Improve the App through analytics, crash reporting, and user feedback
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our terms
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your location data for advertising. We do not share your data with advertisers.

4. Legal basis for processing (UK GDPR)

We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract:to provide the App's core services that you have signed up for
  • Legitimate interests: to improve the App, prevent fraud, and maintain service quality
  • Consent: for optional features such as location sharing with friends and marketing communications (which you can withdraw at any time)
  • Legal obligation: where required to comply with applicable law

5. Who we share your information with

We share data only with:

  • Service providers we rely on to run the App:
    • Supabase (database and authentication) — stores your account data and content
    • Sentry (crash and error reporting) — receives diagnostic data
    • Apple App Store / Google Play — handles app distribution and in-app purchases (if any)
    • Google Maps Platform — receives location queries to display map tiles and routes
    • Google Workspace — handles our business email correspondence
    • Hosting and infrastructure providers supporting the above services
  • Other Horizn users, only according to your privacy settings (e.g. friends can see your location if you enable sharing; your drives may be visible on community leaderboards)
  • Legal authorities, if required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, or property

All service providers are bound by contracts requiring them to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

6. International data transfers

Some of our service providers are based outside the UK and the European Economic Area. When we transfer data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK Information Commissioner's Office, or transfers to jurisdictions with an adequacy decision.

  • Drive and activity data: for as long as your account is active, unless you delete individual records
  • Diagnostic data (Sentry): retained for up to 90 days
  • Backups: may persist for up to 30 days after deletion before being fully purged

If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain information.
